Amelia Miller was branded the family troublemaker. Her life was marked by tragedy from the start: her mother died giving birth to her, and later, her stepmother died after falling down stairs while pregnant. Her father, blaming Amelia, punished her by confining her to a dark, humid attic without sunlight or food.
