He awakens in the body of a scrawny seven-year-old Ezra Bridger, immediately after Ezra's parents have been arrested by the Empire for their rebellious activities. This unfortunate "respawn timing" leaves Alex, as Ezra, stranded on Lothal, hungry, and without power. He's also eight long years away from the Ghost crew making their appearance.
With Darth Sidious and Vader actively eliminating Force-sensitives, Alex is acutely aware of the short lifespan awaiting him. He refuses to spend his second chance simply surviving as a street rat. Instead, he is determined to become the strongest space wizard possible.
His quest for power leads him to a forbidden question, one that both the Jedi and Sith would go to extreme lengths to suppress: what if midi-chlorians, the very essence connecting individuals to the Force, could be extracted, stolen, or ripped from another's body and absorbed? While some might label this idea as heresy, Alex views it as a means of survival, and potentially, something far greater. He sees no reason to be limited by his birthright when he can claim someone else's.
