In a world where an extraterrestrial system has granted powers to a select few humans for decades, Alden stands apart. Unlike most, who aspire to be superheroes, Alden’s ambition is to become a sidekick. He has his reasons for this unusual path, but it promises to be a challenging journey. Even if Alden is fortunate enough to be among the rare humans who receive powers from the alien system, the specific role of a true battlefield support class is uncommon. Furthermore, old-school sidekicks have fallen out of popularity over the years. Despite these obstacles, Alden possesses unwavering determination. He also finds himself unexpectedly accompanied by what might be a murderous demon. "Super Supportive" is a slow-burning, character-driven story that will be extensive in length. While the protagonist is a child in the initial chapter, the majority of the narrative will follow him in his mid to late teens. The novel contains significant violence and elements of darkness, making it suitable for adult and young adult readers. The narrative explores Alden's deeply personal motivations. As he expresses, he desires to use his magic to protect himself and ensure a life worth living—one that is joyful much of the time, rather than "endlessly shitty and full of horror." This focus on a normal person's needs and goals is central to the novel, allowing readers to connect with the protagonist. Alden is portrayed as a lawful good and morally upright character, around 15 years old for most of the story. Readers should not expect him to be overly powerful, especially in the early stages, nor does he exhibit the self-serving ambition often seen in other fantasy genres. Instead, the story presents modern-minded characters within a contemporary setting. While superhero dynamics are introduced, the novel leans more towards a slice-of-life action narrative, with larger-scale events unfolding beyond Earth's immediate superhero scene. The story unfolds on an Earth that has essentially become a "resource planet" under an alien empire. The system grants powers, but these abilities are primarily intended to make individuals more useful to the aliens, essentially turning them into "indentured servants." Alden, for instance, receives the "Rabbit" class, which grants him abilities akin to a servant, such as folding napkins or setting cutlery. In exchange for these powers, he is on call 24/7, subject to being summoned by his alien master for various tasks and compensated with currency valuable only to humans. This arrangement highlights Alden's lack of agency, as the aliens treat humans with little regard. While other classes might receive more warning, Rabbits get a mere 45 seconds notice before summoning. Despite the seemingly subservient nature of these powers, there is a deeper purpose. The superpowers were initially granted by the aliens to bolster magic-wielding individuals against a pervasive corruption, with the system simultaneously fixing and sealing the source of this corruption and mutation into chaos energy. With this threat largely mitigated, new planets like Earth are permitted more autonomy, provided their inhabitants are willing to be summoned for emergencies or employment, for which they receive payment. This suggests a more nuanced relationship than outright slavery, though without the option to refuse. Given that humans are largely insignificant to the aliens, the "supers" on Earth are left to establish their own hero-villain dynamics.
